DUAL MEET INFORMATION

Warm Ups: Begin at 6:00 PM, Weather Permitting
Meet Start Time: 6:30 PM, Weather Permitting

Swimmers should have: Team Suit (or one piece suit, swim trunks, etc.)
                                    Team Cap (or swim cap)
                                    Goggles

We will need several PARENT VOLUNTEERS to help make the meet run smoothly.  We will need 6 RIBBON AWARDERS and 6 TIMERS; please consider volunteering for one of these tasks. The meet will NOT start until we have all the volunteers in place - it is impossible to run a swim meet without strong support from all parents in our program.

What should I bring to the meet?  Chairs, blankets or large towels for swimmers to sit on while waiting for their next race, and a small activity to keep your child occupied between races - i.e. playing cards, coloring books, etc.

Dual Meet facts:

1. Parents are responsible for their swimmers at the meet.  Please make sure that all swimmers are sitting down with your family between each race.  There is NO reason for a swimmer to be running around the pool deck during the competition.  NO SWIMMERS ARE ALLOWED TO BE IN THE POOL, UNLESS THEY ARE RACING IN AN EVENT.

2. Coach Ann or the announcer will call for each age group to report to the staging area.  Swimmers who are not at the staging area when the heats are set up for the race will not be able to race in that particular event.  Please be attentive to all meet announcements.  Swimmers will compete in the following age groups: 6 & Unders, 7 & 8 year olds, 9 & 10 year olds, 11 & 12 year olds, and 13 & Up.  The strokes will be competed in this order: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly.  All 6 & Under and 7 & 8 year old groups will compete in 25 yard events - this is one length of the pool.  All other age groups will compete in 50 yard events - this is two lengths of the pool.

3. Swimmers may be permitted to swim in up to 3 INDIVIDUAL EVENTS.  Swimmers will only compete in events that they can properly perform the stroke in. Coach Ann will select the event that each swimmer will compete in.

4. Weather Policy: Please do not call Coach Ann to ask if the meet has been canceled. Meets are RARELY canceled before the meet start time.  All efforts are made to have the dual meet - we typically will wait as late as 7:30 PM to get the swim meet underway.
If a meet were to be canceled in advance of the actual meet start time, an E-mail would be sent to all families, so check your E-mails before you head out to a dual meet. Only once, in 16 years, has an E-mail been sent canceling a dual meet.

The Englewood Pool is staffed by City of Orlando lifeguards and it is their responsibility to determine whether or not it is safe enough for our swimmers to be in the pool.  They have a serious job to perform with specific guidelines that they must follow.  If they hear thunder or see lightening, they have a 30 minute "hold" policy that they must follow.  This means that from that point of "hearing thunder" or "seeing lightening" the pool must be closed for 30 minutes.

Concession Stand

We will have a concession stand at ALL HOME MEETS.  All families are asked to bring 2 dozen individually-wrapped snacks that can be sold at the concession stand.  Sport drinks, sodas, and bottled water will also be available for purchase, and weather permitting, we will sell pizza! The proceeds from our concession stand go towards equipment and other operational expenses for the team. If you would like to volunteer to help at the concession stand please E-mail Doreen Sullivan at sulli826@bellsouth.net.
