ABOUT US

STONE CRABS SWIM TEAM

The Stone Crabs Swim Team, established in 1991, is a member-club of USA Swimming. This team is committed to the development of swimmers of all ages and abilities, within a low-key, competitive atmosphere. The Stone Crabs Swim Team is dedicated to developing every swimmer to their fullest potential. We work toward this goal by offering creative, well-designed practices that allow swimmers to first develop each stroke correctly, and then we add yardage to ensure the endurance to compete in the stroke.

Our swimmers train multiple days a week, with a strong emphasis on stroke technique. We offer fun-filled practices that are unique and interesting to our swimmers. Our coaching staff is experienced and well-trained to coach effectively swimmers of all levels.

The team sponsors its own invitational in the first week of December. We host dual meets throughout the summer months. We also travel to local and state invitationals once a month and our swimmers participate in state and national meets when they have achieved qualifying times. The Stone Crabs Swim Team is one of the founding members of the Central Sunshine Swim League, and co-sponsors the league's championship meet every August.

We always welcome new swimmers with or without previous swim team experience. In addition to the swim team, we offer swimming lessons (both private and group), Mommy & Me classes, and swim camps and clinics.

Swimming is a life-long sport, so whether your child is looking for a swim team or swim lessons or swim camps or simply the opportunity to participate in a swimming activity, the Stone Crabs Swim Team offers all of these possibilities. We are your swimming headquarters.

COACH ANN & RANDY STONE

Coach Ann Guffey Stone founded the Stone Crabs Swim Team in May of 1991. A former swimmer herself, Coach Ann gained valuable coaching experience under the direction of the late Coach William (Bill) P. Mann (Head Coach, USF Varsity Girls, National Champions 1986). Additionally, Coach Ann has attended clinics and lectures over the years acquiring specific knowledge about how to teach and train swimmers in the various strokes. The primary focus at every practice is on the proper execution of each stroke drills and "taking the stroke" apart.

Coach Ann grew up in Tampa, FL, graduating from Tampa Catholic High School. She then went on to Gettysburg College '83 where she earned a degree in Political Science. She attended Rutgers Law School from 1983-1985. Coach Randy Stone has always been an integral of the Stone Crabs Swim Team. He grew up in Waterbury, CT, graduated from Taft, and then he also went on to graduate from Gettysburg College '82 with a degree in Business Administration. Coach Randy's coaching experience is not simply limited to the sport of swimming. He brings to our team the personal experience of playing multiple sports at the collegiate level including four years of college football and two years of college track. He locally coached SAY (Pony baseball) teams from 1990-2002. He was the HEAD COACH of the

Bishop Moore Varsity Girls and Boys Water Polo teams in 2002. He has attended stroke clinics and worked with other swim coaches to gain specific knowledge regarding competitive swimming.

Coaches Ann and Randy married in June 1983. They moved to Orlando in 1985, raising their five children: Thomas, Nicole, Kenny, Michael and Jacqueline. All five of the children coached at one time or another with the club and Kenny is still on the coaching staff.

For over twenty-five years, Coach Ann and Randy Stone, have taught, developed, and trained outstanding swimmers in Central Florida. They continue to share the passion that they personally have for this remarkable sport with children and young people. Swimming is not only a lifesaving sport, it is a lifelong sport the low impact nature of the sport, combined with the total workout nature of swimming- makes swimming a sport that can be enjoyed at any age! They find equal enjoyment in watching a child grasp the physical ability to swim breaststroke legally, as well as training and observing "one of their own" become a High School All American.
